We believe the ability to communicate, read and write are some of the fundamental skills children will need for lifelong learning and will enable them to understand others in spoken and written form. Through developing their knowledge, skills and understanding in English, children learn to appreciate that communication in all forms contributes to their wider understanding of the world in which they live. Our wider curriculum places huge emphasis on the development of language and vocabulary, linked to experiences.

Children are exposed to high quality, deep and rich reading opportunities, which we know will, in turn, translate into high quality writing.

We use Talk for Writing, which is an engaging teaching framework, based on the principles of how children learn. It enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally, before reading and analysing it, and then writing their own version.
